London – The historical drama “Milarepa,” based on a true story that explores the deeper meaning of human life, spirituality, sacrifice, struggle, and self-realization, is set to be performed in South East London.

Following a successful performance in Aldershot on Sunday, March 8, in the special presence of director Buddhi Tamang and Nepal coordinator Lama Koshish Waiba, the play is now being brought to South East London due to popular demand from devotees and audiences.

With the special presence of director Tamang and Lama Waiba, the play will be staged on March 29, 2026, at 4:30 PM at Tramshed Hall in Woolwich, London.

The charity show is being organized by the Buddhist Community Centre (BCC) UK, targeting the Nepali community living in areas such as Plumstead, Woolwich, Welling, and Charlton, where there is a significant Nepali population.

The hall sponsorship for the event has been provided by Chong Sherpa of RIO Sushi Franchise and Tenzing Dokpa of Kailash Momo Plumstead.

The play is based on the life story of Jetsun Milarepa, a great yogi and poet born in Kyangtse near the Nepal–Tibet border. It portrays his transformation from a misguided youth involved in dark tantric practices into a spiritually awakened practitioner who attains enlightenment under the guidance of his guru, Marpa Lotsawa. The drama powerfully delivers the message that transformation in human life is always possible.

Presented by Mandala Theatre Nepal, the play is written by Chang Ngon Heruka and directed by Buddhi Tamang and Umesh Tamang. It features powerful performances by actors Rupesh Lama, Ramila Moktan, and Bikash Lama, among others. The production also includes traditional music featuring the voice of Ani Choying Dolma, with musical arrangement by Sudip Khatiwada.

According to program coordinator and BCC UK Vice President Captain Dev Ghale, the play has been filmed using modern camera technology and will be screened in the hall.

The ticket price has been set at £25. BCC UK President Angdawa Sherpa stated that tickets can be obtained from the BCC UK monastery in Aldershot or from Kailash Momo and Everest Plumstead in Plumstead.

The organizers believe that “Milarepa” is not only for Buddhist followers but also for general audiences, as it offers insight into the truth of life, the essence of spirituality, and a path to overcome greed, anger, and ego. Milarepa’s story of sacrifice, repentance, and intense spiritual practice is expected to inspire audiences to reflect on their own lives.

BCC UK General Secretary Major Kumar Gurung, MVO, who has played an important role in coordinating with the director to bring the play to the UK, has urged all Nepalese in the UK, along with community organizations, monasteries, temples, and lovers of art and culture, to attend this meaningful historical drama.

Similarly, BCC UK’s head of the mothers’ group, Sharada Gurung, stated that if there is demand from other locations, the play could also be performed in those areas.
