Governing Trustees.

The Buddhist Community Centre UK (BCCUK) is governed by a dedicated board of seven trustees, each serving as the legal custodians of the charity. As registered with the Charity Commission under number 1145982, these trustees are entrusted with oversight of BCCUK’s mission, finances, strategy, and public accountability.

Their Role & Legal Responsibilities

As charity trustees under England and Wales law, these individuals bear ultimate responsibility for:

  • Ensuring BCCUK’s activities align strictly with its charitable purposes, including public benefit through religious, educational, and welfare work.
  • Upholding legal obligations such as prudent financial oversight, compliance with regulations, and safeguarding vulnerability-sensitive activities.
  • Acting without personal financial gain—BCCUK trustees receive no remuneration, ensuring all resources are directed toward community benefit rather than personal reward.

Governance & Transparency

BCCUK Trustees fulfill key governance duties as mandated by the Charity Commission, such as:

  • Maintaining updated records of trustee appointments through the online system.
  • Ensuring statutory reports—annual accounts and returns—are submitted accurately and on time .
  • Implementing robust internal policies around risk management, conflicts of interest, safeguarding, and financial control, in line with regulatory guidance.

Trustees in Practice

While specific names are not publicly listed on the official register, BCCUK operates under these seven unpaid trustees who collectively steer the organisation’s strategic direction. They work closely with a large volunteer base of around 100 individuals to ensure operational success and alignment with the Centre’s values and objectives.

Why This Matters

  • Legal Integrity: By adhering to formal standards, the trustees protect both BCCUK’s mission and its public accountability.
  • Ethical Clarity: Voluntary governance affirms that BCCUK’s focus remains firmly on community service and spiritual growth—not personal profit.
  • Sustainable Leadership: Through effective governance practices and oversight, trustees support ongoing expansion and quality programming at the Centre.
