Historic Play “Milarepa” to Be Presented in the UK
London:
The historic play “Milarepa,” based on a true story that reveals the profound meaning of human life, spirituality, sacrifice, struggle, and self-realisation, is set to be staged in the United Kingdom. The performance will be held in support of the Buddhist Community Centre (BCC) UK charity on 8 March 2026 at 6:00 pm at the Princes Hall, Aldershot.
The play is based on the life story of the great yogi and poet Jetsun Milarepa, who was born in the Kyangtsa region near the Nepal–Tibet border. The central theme of the drama portrays Milarepa’s life journey—from a misguided youth involved in black tantric practices to an enlightened practitioner who attained self-realisation through severe ascetic discipline under the guidance of his guru, Marpa Lotsawa. The play powerfully and inspirationally conveys the message that transformation in human life is always possible.

This special presentation by Mandala Theatre Nepal is written by Chang Ngon Heruka and directed by Buddhi Tamang and Umesh Tamang. The play features strong performances by artists including Rupesh Lama, Ramila Moktan, Bikash Lama, and others. It will also include live traditional music with vocals by Ani Chöying Drolma, with music arranged by Sudip Khatibada.
According to the Programme Coordinator and BCC UK Vice-President Captain Deb Ghale, the powerful performances will be filmed using modern cameras and advanced technology and presented on the screen at the Princes Hall on the day of the event.
Highlighting the significance of the production, BCC UK President Ang Dawa Sherpa stated that the play is rich in essential teachings and rare wisdom needed in modern life. He informed that BCC UK has successfully brought this deeply touching play to the Nepali community in the UK through various means and urged everyone not to miss this golden opportunity to watch it.

Tickets can be purchased from the BCC UK Gumba in Aldershot or online.
The organisers believe that “Milarepa” is not only meaningful for followers of Buddhism but also for the general audience, as it offers deep insight into the truths of life, the essence of religion, freedom from greed, anger, and ego, and an opportunity for profound self-reflection. Milarepa’s life of sacrifice, repentance, and rigorous spiritual practice is expected to inspire audiences to rethink their own lives.
BCC UK General Secretary Major Kumar Gurung, MVO, who has played a key role in coordinating with the play’s directors to bring the production to the UK, has warmly invited the entire Nepali community in the UK—including organisations, gumbas, temples, and lovers of art and culture—to attend and witness this historic play that guides human life towards a positive direction.
